Forster’s Dicliptera is known from the island of Rapa in the Austral Archipelago, where the species is now considered possibly extinct, however. It occurs furthermore on the Society Islands, where it is known from the islands of Bora Bora, Ra’iatea and Taha’a, and formerly also from Tahiti, but is extinct now on the latter island.
