The Green Skimmer was described in 1984, the species’ distribution area stretches from the Philippines and Australia to western Polynesia where it formerly was misidentified as another species, the Slender Skimmer (Orthetrum sabina (Drury)), which, however, does not occur in the Polynesian region.

The species reaches a wingspan of 6 to 8,5 cm, its head, thorax and abdomen are greenish to greyish yellow with several black markings.

The Green Skimmer is known to breed in small streams. [1][2][3][4]
