Anaciaeschna jaspidea (Burmeister)

Rusty Darner (Anaciaeschna jaspidea)

This is a quite large dragonfly, reaching a wingspan of about 9 cm.

It is indigenous from India to Australia and beyond to the eastern part of Central Polynesia, where it can be found from the Cook Islands to the Austral and Society Islands.

The Rusty Darner is not as colourful as other species, and can be identified in the field by its extremely large head, that seems to be made almost of the two giant eyes alone.
